Grandfather Clocks
I have wanted a grandfather clock for as long as I can remember. I find them to
be very comforting and they bring a sense of calm to me. I wish that I could
afford to have one in my home for my children to remember.
My parents did not have a grandfather clock in the house when I was growing up,
they had a grandmother clock. I loved to hear the chiming on the hour. I still
miss that sound. I want my kids to have memories of that sound.
I was looking at a grandfather clock that sold on eBay recently. The most
expensive one that sold was just fewer than two thousand dollars. It was a
beautiful hand carved grandfather clock. It looked very formal to me. I could
not picture it living in my house.

I often admire a rare grandfather clock I find pictured on the internet. There
is a listing in Froogle right now for an individual selling a grandfather clock
that was made between 1913 and 1915. The clock is six foot seven inches and he
wants fifteen thousand dollars for it. I can’t imagine paying that much for a
clock.
Another beautiful antique grandfather clock on Froogle right now was made in the
1700’s in Sweden and is painted. It is so very beautiful and stately. The base
has a graceful look to it. The face of the grandfather clock has some nice
detail work. The sheer fact that it was made roughly three hundred years ago
makes it too valuable for me to own.
I have been a little taken aback by almost every contemporary
grandfather clock I saw at places like Grandfatherclocks.com. They don’t give to
me any nostalgic feeling whatsoever. It is hard to put my finger on exactly what
feeling it is exactly that they do give me. They seem like something a rich
lawyer would decorate his office with.
I must admit, though, that one grandfather clock in the contemporary section of
Grandfatherclocks.com did look good to me. My favorite grandfather clock was
priced at nine thousand dollars, marked down today only for six thousand. The
website also promised that if I bought the grandfather clock today, shipping
would be free!
