Collection Of Antique Clocks

My mother’s collection of antique clocks is pretty impressive. She has been a collector of various things for my entire life. I remember that she started collected antique clocks specifically when I was around sixteen years old.

Her first purchase was a Seth Thomas wall clock that was made in 1890. This was the beginning of her collection of antique clocks. There are two faces on that Seth Thomas clock, one displaying the time and the other displaying the date.

The collection of antique clocks really has no particular boundary. Mother’s only requirement is that the antique clocks be made before 1930. She has not had much trouble finding suitable pieces.

One of the older antique clocks in my mother’s collection came about three years ago. She called me excitedly when she found a walnut clock made in 1760. She thought that it was a bargain at three thousand pounds!

She has one very strange piece in her collection of antique clocks. She has a carriage clock that is housed in a gilt brass case. The chiming that this clock makes is soothing and its French movements have never needed repaired. This clock was made around 1880.

Another one of the antique clocks my mother has from the 1880’s is a mantle clock that I truly love. I like quarter chiming clocks and this one is just that.

I don’t think that I have inherited my mother’s passion for collecting antique clocks. I have acquired an appreciation for them, though. I have never looked at antique clocks the same after learning what a complicated trade that it was to build one.

My mother has her favorite of the antique clocks in her bedroom on her nightstand. It is her favorite because it is so ornate. Mother swears that the gilt bronze statue is of Cupid making a bow. He is sitting on polished white marble. This is truly a stunning clock.
